Go-Bo Salad Making

For my front page posting I’d like to share my Go-bo salad recipe this week. But before I start, I’d like to take a minute and mention that chapter 28 of Daisy and Connor’s World has also been posted. Now, on to Go-Bo salad………

Go-Bo is a root that is eaten in Japan. I don’t know what it is called in the USA. But it is well liked and often eaten in the East.

Go-Bo Root

This is what Go-Bo looks like when bought at the store.

To eat it you must wash and peel it with a carrot peeler.

Daicon vegetable

Wash and peel 1/3 of this Daicon vegetable with a carrot peeler.


2 carrots must also be washed and peeled

3 grated vegetables

All 3 vegetables are then grated.

Go-Bo Salad

Put it all together and add a little lettuce and some dressing and there you have it, Go-Bo Salad. My favorite dressing is a creamy sesame type dress however, any type but the sour types of dressings will do just fine.

One thing to remember if you decide to make this salad is that Daicon, when it is grated, is soupy.

Daicon has a lot of juice when grated

You don’t want all that juice in your salad. Grate Daicon separately and pour out the juice before adding it to the rest of the salad. I hope you like it, Julia

    This looks yummy!!! josie loved that salad dressing by the way. She was very sad when she finally ate all of it. I have been trying to find an equivalent one here but each one I buy just isn’t quite like the one you gave us. I will have to try one of the Asian grocery stores. Maybe they have the Go-Bo too! Also, the kids have been requesting your papaya stir-fry again…”make aunt julie’s orange stir-fry!!!!”
